The Illuminati is a secretive organization formed by Tony Stark to serve as a "super-hero think tank" to solve potential crises before they begin.

- Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) - Founder and de facto leader. Represents the interest of "establishment" heroes who operate inside the system.
- Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic) - Founder of the Fantastic Four, and primary scientific advisor to the group.
- Professor Charles Xavier (aka Professor X) - Founder of the X-Men, and Headmaster of the Xavier Institute. High level telepathic mutant. Represented the concerns of the mutant community.
- Dr. Stephen Strange - The Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, representing mystics and outsider heroes.
- Black Bolt - Ruler of the Inhumans.
- Namor of Atlantis - Ruler of Atlantis, renowned for his ability to operate in the gray areas.
- Emma Frost (aka White Queen) - A high-level telepathic mutant. Joined the team during Fall of X.
- Dr. Adam Brashear (aka Blue Marvel) - A physicist with anti-matter manipulation powers.
