Feilong is a supervillain appearing in Marvel Comics. He is an enemy of Iron Man and the X-Men.
Origins[]
Kelvin Heng was born to a Chinese father and a Serbian mother. His father was one of China’s top nuclear physicists, and his mother was a Nobel Prize winning scientist in her own right. From his mother’s side, he is also a descendant of renowned inventor Nikola Tesla. A child prodigy, Kelvin aspired from an early age to honor his famous ancestor’s legacy by helping humanity colonize Mars. Kelvin graduated summa cum laude from MIT at the age of 13, and by the age of 15 he had already formed his first startup company. This company started strong, but folded within a year. The way Kelvin told it, his fickle parents were disappointed that he was not the valedictorian of MIT, and feared that he was a one-trick pony who peaked too early. Consequently, they disowned him and shorted his company, leaving their son bankrupt. Vowing to regain everything he had lost, Kelvin resurfaced five years later as the founder of Feilong Industries, a technology firm devoted to massive innovations in biology and climate science. To signify his rebirth, he stopped using his birth name and began using the name Feilong, to ensure that the public would always equate the brand with the man behind it.
Start of Darkness[]
Feilong tested his new technology by turning a lifeless desert green, a feat which made him a media darling. Concluding that adapting his own body to adapt to the Martian environment would be far easier than terraforming the planet, Feilong enhanced his body by exposing himself to cosmic rays concentrated through ruby quartz crystals. This experiment gave him superhuman strength and durability and the ability to emit a powerful green energy blast from his mouth, but had the side-effect of changing his skin tone to a fuscia color. Feilong’s hopes of colonizing Mars were dashed when the mutant nation of Krakoa annexed the Red Planet as a colony. Blaming mutants for crushing his childhood dream and resenting the Avengers for allowing it to happen, he vowed revenge.
Feilong’s accomplishments attracted the attention of Orchis, a terrorist organization opposed to mutantkind. They recruited him as part of a plan to claim the Martian moon of Phobos as a pushback against the Krakoan annexation of Mars. Feilong succeeded in this task and was soon promoted to Orchis’ Director of Operations. After establishing an Orchis base on Phobos, Feilong declared the moon “the edge of the human frontier” and opened it to tourists. This ensured that if the X-Men attacked Phobos, Orchis would have a steady supply of human shields.
Rivalry With Iron Man[]
As Orchis continued to wage war on mutantkind, Feilong infiltrated the Hellfire Gala, a formal party where X-Men, Avengers, and prominent foreign nationals gathered to celebrate Krakoa’s accomplishments. It was there that Feilong met Tony Stark for the first time. Stark reminded Feilong that he was not on the guest list and inquired why he was there. Feilong said he was looking for a worthy opponent, which prompted Stark to tell Feilong “be careful what you wish for”.
As Orchis expedited their plans, Feilong began a campaign of subterfuge against Tony Stark. By this time, Stark had divested himself from Stark Unlimited, depleted his fortunes in a campaign against the arms dealer Source Control, and reduced his previously considerable Iron Man arsenal to a single suit of Model 70 armor to “revisit his roots”. Taking advantage of his adversary’s vulnerability, Feilong acquires a Life Model Decoy of Tony Stark and has the LMD infiltrate Stark’s apartment and sabotage the arc reactor of his lab. The resulting explosion kills one of Stark’s neighbors, Marielle Marcus, and injures several others. He then murders Zhong Wei, the primary stockholder of Stark Unlimited, to ensure that Feilong Industries can acquire the company in a hostile takeover.
To test Iron Man’s combat capabilities, Feilong has the LMD ambush and kidnap one of the Armored Avenger’s oldest foes, the Living Laser, and subjects him to experiments which upgrade his powers, but traumatize his already fractured mind. In his crazed mental state, the Laser believes that the real Stark is responsible and seeks revenge. Iron Man eventually tracks down the LMD and defeats it. As the impostor self-destructs, Feilong speaks through it, directing Stark where to find him. As Feilong celebrates being named the new head of Stark Unlimited, he is confronted by Iron Man. With no evidence connecting Feilong to any crime, Iron Man urges Feilong to confess. However, Feilong refuses, noting that while he is currently a media darling, public option toward Iron Man is at a record low.
As Feilong inspects his newly acquired assets, he comes across a secret holographic recording made by Howard Stark, intended for Tony. Feilong uses the information from the recording to create a new breed of Sentinel made with Stark Technology. Iron Man, still hot on Feilong’s trail, stumbles upon the “Stark Sentinel” prototype and is defeated by it, barely escaping with his life. Though Iron Man and War Machine destroy what they believe to be the factory where the Sentinels are produced, War Machine is captured by Orchis security drones, and Feilong is revealed to have set up numerous secondary factories that nobody else knew about. The Stark Sentinels are subsequently deployed against Krakoa in a devastating attack that leaves several mutants dead.
Fall of X[]
After the attack on the Krakoa, Orchis quickly put their public relations machine to work, using agent provocateurs to discredit mutants. Feilong met with the President of the United States, arranging for Stark Sentinels to protect the White House, although the President was uncomfortable with this arrangement. Recalling that Stark had one set of Model 70 armor left (but not knowing about the Mark NIL stealth suit), Feilong insisted that the armor was his property and demanded that Stark surrender it. With Stark and Emma Frost on the run, Feilong deployed Stark Sentinels against them. After Iron Man and Frost are defeated by the Sentinels, Stark puts Frost in the armor and has her fly away, then tells Feilong that he is at his mercy, but murdering an unarmed Avenger in cold blood will end badly for him. Feilong relents, but then resorts to another tactic, threatening to use his underworld contacts to have Rhodey murdered in prison. Stark scuttles the armor and delivers it to the front door of Stark Unlimited's headquarters.
Feilong shows up at another event unannounced, a dinner party announcing Tony Stark's ascent to Black King of the Hellfire Club. Frost considers using her powers to kill him, but Stark stops her, reminding her put her power inhibitor ring back on. Feilong witnesses Stark putting the ring back on her finger and mistakes it for a marriage proposal. He asks if he will be invited to the wedding. Knowing that Feilong will only show up if he is not invited, Stark says no. With the trap set, Stark and Frost have a wedding in Las Vegas, and Feilong shows up uninvited. Frost immediately uses her telepathy to probe his mind. She discovers that Feilong has been lying about his family history: His parents never disowned him, they were mutants and he resented them for being born a normal human. Accessing Feilong's memories also gives Stark a chance to finally view his father's final recording. After getting what they need from him, Frost considers killing him. But she instead spares him, leaving no memory that she had ever infiltrated his mind.
