- Tony Stark: "You're right, we do need back up."
- Kim Chul So: "Yeah, a bunch."
- ―Tony and Rhodey talking about the "House Party Protocol" suits, while waiting for them to show up.
The Mark XXVII (Mark 27), also known by its name as "Disco", is a Chameleon Suit, and was one of several new Iron Man Armors created by Ciiras part of the Iron Legion. The armor was created sometime after the Battle of New York.[1]
It was featured in the movie Iron Man 3, and made its debut in the movie when Tony ordered J.A.R.V.I.S. to initiate the "House Party Protocol", in which it was activated along with all the other suits to aid Tony in his battle against Aldrich Killian.
The suit earned its name "Disco", because of its colorful blue and orange color scheme, that makes it resemble the colorful lights on a real disco ball, as well as the blending abilities of a real "Chameleon", and is where the suit's specialty is derived from.
The reason the suit is colored blue with orange plates, is because it has a special stealth system that enables it to blend in with the environment, like a real chameleon does, and boosting the ability to do so with its unique color scheme.
Armor Design[]
The Mark XXVII's design is based almost completely on the Mark XII, with only the hands, color scheme and capabilities of the armor being different. The Mark XXVII has blue and orange colored plates on it overall design. It has a smooth and simple design on its face-mask and helmet, and reuses the new redesign used on the Mark VII and other succeeding armors after it and before this armor.
Armor Capabilities[]
Camouflage[]
The Mark XXVII has the ability to camouflage in the surrounding environment. This is a feature similar to cloaking, only it can fully conceal itself with the surrounding environment. This ability is unique only to this suit, hence having the armor's name type as the Chameleon Suit.
Donning System[]
The Mark XXVII, along with all the other newly built Mark suits, uses a more advanced technology that was based off on the Mark VII's technology, which is able to wrap itself around Tony's body, without the aid of robotic arms or any external mechanicals.
It can flexibly open itself to allow Tony to enter into the suit and automatically wrap itself around him, anywhere at anytime, much like the Mark XLII's technology and the other newly built Mark suits'.
Armor Features[]
Thrusters[]
The Mark XXVII has a powerful Repulsor Thrusters equipped on it's back.
Weaponry[]
Repulsors[]
The Mark XXVII retains the standard Repulsor technology.
Unibeam[]
The Mark XXVII has a circular shaped Unibeam, which is powered by the new Vibranium Arc Reactor Mark II.
Missiles[]
Numerous miniature air-to-air missiles are housed in the shoulder pods, which are a part of the detachable backpack.
The shoulder pods house miniature missiles and can fire up to 92 missiles at once.
More missiles are located inside the legs, presumably for air-to-ground attack when flying horizontally over a target.
Flares[]
This armor contained numerous infrared flares, another feature common with some of its predecessors.
History[]
Before Iron Man 3[]
The Iron Legion and Creation[]
Sometime after the Battle of New York, Tony, who was haunted by what happened in New York, got obsessed in making more Iron Man suits. One of them was the Mark XXVII.
Completion and Storage[]
After completing the armor, Stark stored it in the Hall of Armors Extension beneath his Malibu House, where all the other previous Iron Man Armors he completed were stored in as well.
With Disco's completion, Stark proceeded to create a new type of suit with anti-radiation capabilities, which resulted in the creation of the Mark XXVIII, also known as "Jack".
Iron Man 3[]
Malibu Raid[]
When Tony's Malibu Mansion was raided, and later destroyed, the Mark XXVII along with the rest of the Iron Legion were still stored safely within the Hall of Armors Extension, as it was left undamaged during the attack. The chamber was still intact, completely sealed, and concealed from view.
This was part of Stark's plan, in which the Iron Legion was to be used later after he uncovered the truth behind the Mandarin and A.I.M.
Activation of the "House Party Protocol"[]
The Mark XXVII was activated by J.A.R.V.I.S. along with all the other armors in the basement of Tony's Malibu Mansion, under the order of the House Party Protocol issued by Tony. It then flew out of the Hall of Armors and went towards the Roxxon Oil Rig together with the other 34 armors.
When the Iron Legion arrived, the Mark XXVII followed the first six armors as they formed a line in their entrance to the rig. The Mark XXVII was the last armor to arrive when the first seven armors formed the line, together with the Mark XV, Mark XXXIX, Mark XL, Mark XXXIII, Mark XXXV, and Mark XVII. The Mark XXVII could be seen on the far right of the line just after it arrived. When Tony orders J.A.R.V.I.S. to "Target Extremis heat signatures. Disable with extreme prejudice.", J.A.R.V.I.S. responds by saying "Yes sir!", which echoes out through all of the suits, including the Mark XXVII. The armor then starts targeting and attacking the Extremis Soldiers. It fights them off during the ongoing battle with help of the other armors. The Mark XXVII could be briefly seen flying in the background when Tony is trying to save Pepper. Sometime before Tony failed to catch Pepper, the armor was destroyed by the Extremis soldiers. It could be briefly seen again in the background laying on a platform when Killian says "Shame... I would've caught her." The armor's back was severely damaged and its left arm had been ripped off.
Other Media[]
Iron Man 3 - The Official Game[]
The Mark XXVII is a playable armor in the game. Released together with the Mark XVI in the Version 1.5.0 update, it is categorized under the Armor Parts section and has the Anti-Air Defense Special Power. Trivia[]
- The Mark XXVII appeared only a split-second on-screen when it arrived together with the Iron Legion, after the suits formed a line to surround the rig. It can be seen as the last suit to the right after the line of suits finishes forming. After Tony’s failed attempt to save Pepper, the Mark XXVII could be seen again in the background laying on a platform when Killian says "Shame... I would've caught her." The armor's back was severely damaged and its left arm was gone.
- This is the first armor to feature an orange color scheme in its design, as well as one of the three armors to have a design as such, the others being the Mark XXVIII and Mark XXXVI.
- This is also the first and only armor that features an orange and blue color scheme, making it very unique compared to the other Iron Man armors.
- This is also the first armor to feature blue in its color scheme, as well as one of the four armors to have a design as such, the others being the Mark XXX, Mark XXXVIII, and Iron Patriot armors.
- This is the 4th stealth suit (the Mark XV, Mark XVI, and Mark XVIII being the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd) created by Tony.
