The Sheriff was in a bar in Rose Hill when Tony Stark was attacked by Ellen Brandt. He intervened and Brandt showed him a Homeland Security badge. He was not convinced, which annoyed her to the point of heating the badge with her Extremis powers and pushing it into his face, burning him. She then grabbed his deputy's gun and shot both of them.
